Dendritic Cells (DCs)

Dendritic cells (DCs), arising from hematopoietic stem cells within the bone marrow, orchestrate pivotal roles as orchestrators within the immune system. Upon activation, DCs function like radar systems, detecting and engulfing foreign pathogens or cancerous entities. Following endocytosis, these cells process the captured antigens into smaller fragments, presenting them on their cell surface. This strategic presentation serves as an educational tool, educating other immune cells to recognize and engage with cancerous entities. Interactions with T-lymphocytes and B-lymphocytes culminate in the initiation of robust immune responses, thus facilitating targeted destruction of cancerous cells.
According to the regulatory directives from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, autoimmune cell therapy utilizing DCs is endorsed for the same indications as CIK cell therapy, being:
- Hematologic malignancies unresponsive to conventional therapies.
- Stage I to III solid tumors unresponsive to standard interventions.
- Stage IV solid tumors.
